I was honored to deliver my keynote address, “The Heart of Inclusion,” at the 2024 NCPEID Annual Conference, which was held virtually on July 11-12. This event provided a fantastic opportunity for APE and APA professionals to connect with experts and learn about evidence-based practices. Engaging in advocacy initiatives and events alongside my fellow professionals was truly inspiring, marking the start of Disability Pride Month.

In a recent “Stronger Together Culture Coffee Talk,” Cliff Trammell, Director of Culture at Rangewater Real Estate, featured Alycia Anderson, a disability advocate and TEDx speaker. They discussed combating ableism and fostering inclusivity. Alycia stressed the importance of hiring people with disabilities and making inclusivity a priority. She encouraged ongoing progress and shared personal insights on overcoming challenges. Cliff highlighted the value of understanding disability conversations and thanked Alycia for her impactful message.

Alycia, appointed by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, is the first Persons with Disabilities Business Enterprise Representative on California’s Insurance Diversity Task Force. Congratulating re-elected Chair Mark Morales and new Vice-Chair Vikita Poindexter, Alycia aims to enhance equity and diversity in California’s insurance market. She looks forward to contributing to the strategic plan and the California Insurance Diversity Survey, promoting opportunities for underrepresented communities.
In this episode of “Pushing Forward with Alycia,” Kimberly Daya shares her journey with Lyme disease, highlighting the challenges of misdiagnosis and the stigma of invisible disabilities. Diagnosed initially with multiple sclerosis, Kimberly endured years of debilitating symptoms before a correct diagnosis of Lyme disease. She emphasizes the importance of empathy and understanding in addressing chronic illnesses. Her experiences led her to create the “Humanity Unlocked” podcast, aiming to foster empathy by sharing diverse human stories and encouraging listeners to see beyond labels.
