Goodbye #Euphemisms and a welcomed hello to who I actually am. #Disabled

Being disabled is not all that I am BUT it is part of who I am …
full stop.

Being disabled is a powerful part of my identity. Just the same as being a woman is also a powerful part of my identity.

Both are important and both are ok to identify with.

Euphemisms are used to substitute one word or saying that might be considered unpleasant in society for something else.

An example of this is using differently-abled instead of disabled.

Most of the time euphemisms have good intention but the reality is using them can perpetuate #Ableist thinking that disability is bad or taboo and that it should be avoided.

Fear of saying the word disability stops progression and recognition of what disability is which is an identity marker.

Let’s start the work of #DisablingAbleism and say the word disability!
